Handicap Methodology

In order to make players handicap changes more responsive to cases where a player is winning or losing a disproportionate amount of games the following rules will apply to handicap changes.

  • Players with a win average above 40% and below 60%
    • no change to handicap.
  • Players with a win average of 75% or greater –
    • -30 points if current handicap greater than 201
    • -20 points if current handicap greater than 100 and less than or equal to 200
    • -10 points if current handicap less than or equal to 100
  • Players with a win average of 60% or greater –
    • -15 points if current handicap greater than 201
    • -10 points if current handicap greater than 100 and less than or equal to 200
    • -5 points if current handicap less than or equal to 100
  • Players with a win average of 25% or lower –
    • +30 points if current handicap greater than 201
    • +20 points if current handicap greater than 100 and less than or equal to 200
    • +10 points if current handicap less than or equal to 100
  • Players with a win average of 40% or lower –
    • +15 points if current handicap greater than 201
    • +10 points if current handicap greater than 100 and less than or equal to 200
    • +5 points if current handicap less than or equal to 100
  • Players who win all singles games in their last match –
    • -15 points if current handicap greater than 201
    • -10 points if current handicap greater than 100 and less than or equal to 200
    • -5 points if current handicap less than or equal to 100
  • Players who lose all singles games in their last match –
    • +15 points if current handicap greater than 201
    • +10 points if current handicap greater than 100 and less than or equal to 200
    • +5 points if current handicap less than or equal to 100
  • Player of the match –
    • This is awarded to the player who wins the most points in a match (including doubles matches). In the event of two or more players having won the same number of points the winner will be decided by which of those players has the highest points difference in their matches including their respective handicaps.

Notes:

  1. The last three matches played are used when calculating a players current average.
  2. Win averages are not computed until a player has played in 2 matches and doubles matches are now included in the players average.
  3. When playing for another team the result of the games will not change the handicap – handicaps will only change when playing for the registered team.
  4. If it is judged that a player has been mis-handicapped we reserve the right to override these rules.
